If Democrats learned any lessons from what works for Republicans not a day would go by that they wouldn't say the phrase, "The corrupt Supreme Court." But, alas, norms....what does that have to do with the price of eggs?
I want a presidential candidate that has a plan as bold as Project 2025 for fixing the court.Even Trump disavowed Project 2025 until after he was elected.
I’m more and more convinced all political (i. e., electoral) analysis is just a stew of bullshit and personal opinion. Context:
I will note something I keep hearing from different lawyers, immigration activists, Dem operatives et al:There's more to that thread, which ends with the admonition that Democrats “must reconquer the White House soon.”
There is no Democratic Stephen miller . And that’s a problem
How soon? In less than 3 years?
This is just childishness pretending to be serious. Leave that to Trump and MAGA. Trump won in 2016 because Hillary is a woman and because of James Comey. (Funny how Tom Cotton says Jack Smith violated something by filing court documents 60 days before the election (that’s not illegal), but what Comey did is fine (except where he touched “Russiagate”).). Kamala lost because she entered too late, and she was a woman. Trump can’t run again in 2028. Who replaces him? Rubio? Cruz? Jr.?
Don’t make me laugh. The Democrats have a deep bench and the distaste of four years of Trump. Cleaning the national stables after Trump has shit all over everything will be a pretty decent campaign platform.
Screaming about how we need to be them is idiotic. One of the replies to that thread gets it almost right: we need LBJ. Except we cut him off after one term. By “we,” I mean the Democrats. One could argue Biden was LBJ’s legislative equal; or at least nearest competitor since. We got rid of him, too.
We have met the enemy; and he is us. We don’t need to be more like our enemy.
I've been saying "the corrupt Supreme Court for at least since Bush v Gore though I"m pretty sure I was using it before then, just not as often. I have to say that seeing what I was saying and increasing in intensity since then becoming mainstream among lawyers isn't anything like gratifying I'm waiting to hear them state the obvious that the problems are rooted in the Constitution and the corrupt intent of the Founders and in John Adams' supposed clever work around of the slave power and their Northern allies in the financial class. Though the Marbury power grab made all of that far, far worse, as Jefferson warned about and Lincoln rejected.
ReplyDeleteAt this point I think the Supreme Court should be burned to the ground and the ground sown with salt, while Congress just starts all over again. The concept of a “Supreme Court” is in Art. III, but the jurisdiction and composition of the Court is entirely up to Congress. And amend Art. III to make even Justices have a term limit, staggered so no POTUS can assign more than two, except in case of death or retirement. We shouldn’t be subject to the whims of fate any longer.
