God's grace is given even though we don't often recognize or accept it. Execution is a denial of what god provides (we can neither request nor earn it, god provides it to all, the rain falls equally on the righteous and the criminal). For me this is the most powerful argument, far above utilitarian arguments of prevention of future crime, sending messages, costs of execution versus incarceration and so on. It resides with actual innocence.
