This is pretty much a summary of the SAVE America Act. It is not law, and doesn’t need to be. Which still makes this statement curious:1. ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW PHOTO I.D. (IDENTIFICATION!).

2. ALL VOTERS MUST SHOW PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP.
3. NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS (EXCEPT FOR ILLNESS, DISABILITY, MILITARY, OR TRAVEL!).
4. NO MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS.
5. NO TRANSGENDER MUTILIZATION SURGERY ON OUR CHILDREN. pic.twitter.com/cP4OZQxujI
Because the SAVE America Act hasn’t passed, and it isn’t going to pass.Trump: We banned the transgender mutilization of children. We got men out of women’s sports. pic.twitter.com/tHQ8WUs4pw

And “mutilization”? They’re really sticking with that? I wonder if they have demanded that word be in the bill? Because statues have to have recognizable words in them, not malapropisms with no dictionary (i.e., agreed upon) meaning. (Dictionaries don’t prescribe meanings, they codify definitions based on usage. Nobody’s using “mutilization” except Trump. And his White House is not going to make “fetch” happen.)
Anyway, what does Trump think he’s doing? Or is he even capable of thought, however loosely defined, at this point?
(And yes, the exceptions for mail in ballots gives the game away. Trump is not in the military, so is he ill, or disabled? Would these require a doctor’s note? I mean, anybody can say they’re ill or disabled, right? And “travel”? Who’s traveling in November (this can only apply to Federal elections)? Rich people who don’t have kids in school. Gotta let them have the convenience.
And as long as we’re talking about mail, USPS says they won’t deliver mail in ballots in states that haven’t handed over their voter data. (I expect that to last about 2 seconds after California sues to invalidate it.) Does this mean the Post Office will stop delivering junk mail because there is no record of me asking for that shit? Isn’t it their job to simply deliver what is lawful to deliver? (Or not even then. It’s illegal to mail bombs, but nobody prosecuted the USPS over the Unabomber. Nor should they have. The Post Office does not determine who is authorized to receive mail. So reduce my estimate to 1 second.)
It is one of my greater lesser wishes that Democrats would reverse the Nixon era semi-privatization of the USPS. It's one of the bigger disappointments I had with Biden, apart from the Gaza thing, that he didn't do that and get rid of that crook from Trump I. I want it to go back to being 100% government run though I'd have the head of it being confirmed by both houses of Congress and serving a fixed term. Actually, these days, I'm thinking more fondly of a permanent civil service branch of the government. One that a Trump or Musk couldn't destroy at the whim of future Taney Courts.
