I grew up among individuals who both feared and longed for the immminent end of the world, ostensibly because all the people sinning and doing whatever they wanted was too much to bear for these suffering, devout Christians. They longed for the punishment of the wicked but even more they longed for a public reward for themselves - a crown conferred during the second judgement confirming their virtue in front of every soul that had ever lived to prove once and for all that THEY were the ones who were right and morally superior. And if that meant every living creature dying in order to achieve it then so be it. God was going to destroy the world for its wickedness eventually, why not now when "it's worse than it's ever been?"<br /><br />Man my childhood was screwed up. Windhorsenoreply@blogger.com
