Why spend kesef (money, silver) on that which does not satisfy, i.e. utilize an idea (monetary value) for things that fulfil no physical need (as food and water fulfil) but instead are valued for the ideas they support (as symbols of prosperity and keeping up with the Joneses)?alberichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03852752646926946626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9479398.post-49603222058130768412013-06-16T16:56:41.605-05:002013-06-16T16:56:41.605-05:00Businesses are. This comes, not from pointy-headed booreycrats, but from a citizen's panel representing both the people of the district, and the religious diversity of the district. There was much discussion on that panel about recognizing Muslim holidays, which would undoubtedly send Rep. Bohac into orbit.

But, as I say, we're ethnically diverse; and we like it that way.Rmjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06811456254443706479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9479398.post-48250754947378871682013-06-15T09:37:31.824-05:002013-06-15T09:37:31.824-05:00What happens when some teacher (or even a student)...What happens when some teacher (or even a student) decides to use "Eid Mubarak" as a generic holiday greeting?

Is that "traditional"? When the candle-ends sent up their conical yellow flames, all the coloured figures from Austria stood out clear and full of meaning against the green boughs. Mr. Shimerda rose, crossed himself, and quietly knelt down before the tree, his head sunk forward. His long body formed a letter 'S.' I saw grandmother look apprehensively at grandfather. He was rather narrow in religious matters, and sometimes spoke out and hurt people's feelings. There had been nothing strange about the tree before, but now, with some one kneeling before it—images, candles... Grandfather merely put his finger-tips to his brow and bowed his venerable head, thus Protestantizing the atmosphere."

Irony is never absent when religion is politicized.
