Of course "religion" is what it has to be called for want of a more accurate word but at least, as you point out, religion makes an attempt at its alternative. The alleged secular alternatives are as empty a promise as the alleged secular alternatives to AA, notably and conspicuously MIA and far more a pose than an attempt.
