Sec. Nielsen, head of DHS, the department which oversees FEMA, is in McAllen, Texas today:
Nielsen is scheduled to meet with over two dozen sheriffs as part of a roundtable briefing to discuss their ongoing collaboration with DHS on immigration enforcement and border security through the 287(g) program.
Authorities said the program represents a tangible example of federal, state and local partnership to ensure that violent criminals don’t go unpunished or unnecessarily released back into communities.
Missouri, Nebraska, and southern Illinois are on their own.
