Which is an object lesson in why we need a Secretary of Defense.NEW: The 150 casualty number did not come from a general as the president told NBC, but came from Pentagon lawyers drafting a worst-case scenario figure hours after an earlier briefing of POTUS. The 150 figure was not cleared w Shanahan https://t.co/V8QLTOxOsY— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) June 22, 2019
The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers. Chaos is sure to follow. The number was given to WHCO Cipollone, and White House lawyers passed it on to POTUS. That figure helped compel the president to call off the strike at the last minute https://t.co/V8QLTOxOsY— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) June 22, 2019
Well, really, nothing to see here....Throughout Friday, several senior admin officials said that a 150 number came in late but they didn't know why it wasn't shared earlier. Hard to overstate how little the White House has wanted to engage on what happened with a potential mil strike https://t.co/V8QLTOxOsY— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) June 22, 2019
After all, Trump has moved on. Four tweets today, after his four about not bombing Iraq. Two are about his campaign for re-election, two are about the border. The latter, of course, to distract attention from his responsibility for the concentration camps he's established.
And because he's tired of Iraq, and he wants to move on to the next shiny object. Beats engaging on what happened with a potential military strike.
