L'etat, c'est moi?

I'm curious whether or not New York elects its Attorney-General, or whether that position is subject to the pleasure of the Governor of the state.  It's a serious question, because in Texas (at least), the AG is an elected position, and the Governor has no authority over the office whatsoever.

Aside from the absurd idea that an investigation of the businesses owned by the President is a danger to national security.  I'd think, rather, illegal business practices by the President are a danger to national security, for rather obvious reasons.
