Interesting the tacit acknowledgement that testing isn't what it should be.

Today is also the 50th anniversary of the shootings at Kent State.  Neil Young's song, which I remember electrifying the crowd as the final encore in a packed stadium in Texas gathered to hear CSNY, is now a cliche more than a call to action.  The photos are so iconic they're practically dull.  But one thing has changed dramatically since that time.

National Guard troops opened fire on unarmed students.  Almost all the students shot or killed were not even involved in the protests.  And yet the students were blamed for being in the way of the bullets, for pushing the Guard into firing on them, for protesting the Guard being on campus (and not the war in Vietnam).  I remember it well.

Today?  Who would accept that the Guard had no choice, that the students were at fault, that the blame lay with the victims?  Who would accept even that the Guard was on campus with live ammunition?

Improvement is slow, and incomplete, and only partial.  But the arc of the universe is long, and it bends towards justice.
