This why, as their treachery is revealed, authoritarians end up in some form of bunker, surrounded by those who support their lies. This was the most interesting chapter of #Strongmen to write. https://t.co/Ez2XMDbuXv— Ruth Ben-Ghiat (@ruthbenghiat) August 23, 2020
...still does "covid" press conferences, and insists on being seen every night of the "virtual" RNC during the hours it's sure to be on broadcast TeeVee?
Asking for a friend. Because:
The more folks saw of Trump early on in the coronavirus briefings, the less support he had in the polls. https://t.co/UJEMSZFIQV— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) August 23, 2020
And speaking of the broadcast of the RNC as if it were a news event:
From me: Networks need to be prepared to handle the RNC as a major political and medical disinformation event. Trump’s messaging on the rigged election and miracle coronavirus cures are dangerous to our health and democracy. https://t.co/k0fzb1VriJ— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) August 23, 2020
Again: are journalists and their cameras just conduits? Or do they have any professional responsiblities at all? Twitter thinks it does:
Twitter has officially hidden Trump’s post this morning. They say it violates Twitter’s rules against blatant voter suppression. https://t.co/8iX6e6FTgF— Marshall Cohen (@MarshallCohen) August 23, 2020
Do the major networks and news channels not have any similar burdens? Twitter just a private company. The broadcast networks use the public airwaves. Doesn't that make them responsible to use them for the national good, not just to get eyeballs to advertisers?
