People are getting shot in Kenosha right now.— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) August 26, 2020
Who cares?
“At one point, shots rang out along a street near a gas station; Sheriff David Beth of Kenosha County said that three people had been shot, and one was killed.” https://t.co/IqxaQR9hIC— Seamus Hughes (@SeamusHughes) August 26, 2020

Jerry Falwell Jr tells CNN he will get a total of $10.5 million from Liberty University after resigning as President and Chancellor. It’s $2.5M over the next two years as part of his departure, which is about 2 years of his salary and around $8M after that.

Meadows Dismisses Hatch Act Concerns: ‘Nobody Outside Of The Beltway Really Cares’ https://t.co/Cxxu3Xre0Q pic.twitter.com/m5plIufxks— Talking Points Memo (@TPM) August 26, 2020
Who cares?
You can see, as the story shifts, the question shifts, too. Who cares that people are being shot in Kenosha (and who is being shot, and by whom) is a different question than "Who cares that the RNC is violating the Hatch Act at the direction of the President?"
Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:– I do solemly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Art. II, Sec. 1, clause 8 of the Constitution of the United States of America
But who cares?
The law doesn't. The law will not impeach, indict, bring civil action, or otherwise impose itself upon anyone. We the people do that. We do that as private citizens in civil actions, or through elected public officials in criminal or civil actions. We do it through the law, but the law is a tool, like a screwdriver. It won't drive the screw itself; a hand has to guide we. We are that hand.
Which resolves the question to a simple fact: if we don't care, nobody does.

I would point out that “nobody cares/doesn’t move votes” argument could have been used to hand-wave every Washington corruption story of my lifetime. It was working with Watergate until the tapes were revealed.— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) August 26, 2020
It actually worked with Iran-Contra.— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) August 26, 2020
Who cares?
Unless we do, nobody does. Whether we do, determines whether anyone does.
