I spent 4 years convinced Trump was illegitimate because he lost the popular vote but won the electoral college. I’d argue a lot of people did, based on the results in November.Trump unleashes an army of sore losers https://t.co/gE41hL3X3y via @politico's @DavidSiders

What did that do to Trump’s presidency? Or democracy?
Trump is a lame duck. A very noisy lame duck, but he’s out, whatever else happens. He’s made a lot of noise, like the cars on the freeway that roar, but don’t move. He’s all noise. The courts haven’t protected democracy, they’ve upheld the law. If democracy was this delicate in America, it would have vanished by now. Enough with the dramatic “look at my woe!” hand-wringing. Trump is done. Flushed down history’s toilet. He’ll be facing criminal charges before the year is out. He’ll have the political clout of a feather duster.
Democracy is not collapsing. It’s not even teetering. Democracy in America is a blood sport, not a bloodless gentleman’s agreement. This isn’t even the riots of the ‘60’s, the terrorist bombings of the’70’s. This is a lame duck one-termer screaming all the way out the door because there’s money in it for him.
All Trump is good at is fleecing the rubes. He doesn’t raise money, because he does it to make money; for him. He may part a few fools from their money after January, but it won’t be to win back the Presidency. That’s his excuse, not his goal. He’s not trying to win now. As long as he mentions courts and lawsuits, people give him money. Why should he give that up?
But there’s no future in it.
I still think the best thing Democrats can do is point out to people that Trump and the Republicans are bilking their inheritance away from their parents and grandparents.
ReplyDeleteAs was pointed out to me, it's better they are giving it to Trump, otherwise they would use it to buy guns and ammo. It was meant as a joke, but it has a strong echo of truth.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
