Does It Matter?

When the President utters absolute nonsense, when he makes demands that are literally impossible, does it matter?

“Signature verification” is a physical impossibility. The ballots have been removed from the envelopes, the latter discarded. The toothpaste won’t go back in the tube, especially when the tube is already in a landfill.

There’s also the simple matter of Georgia law, and the fundamental privacy interest of the voter in her ballot.  This is not something the Georgia legislature can fix (because it ain’t broken). Trump cares about none of that. Trump only cares about Trump. Which is why he’s threatening the runoff.

Trump is trashing everything. But only if we let him. He is doing real damage, but this ain’t it. This is:
It’s not what Trump says that’s dangerous. It’s what he doesn’t do, and doesn’t talk about. It’s what Trump ignores that is more important to us. He can’t do anything to Georgia, nor that much to democracy, so long as our fear doesn’t give him power. He can damage the nation on the way out. Ignore his nonsense. Pay attention to his ignorance.
