I skipped it entirely, but now you don't have to! First up: And They Said It Couldn't Be Done!I could have watched the WH presser or gone to the dentist this afternoon.

I’m at the dentist. I feel like I made the right call.
Nobody's connecting this to vaccines, but what other authority does the POTUS have over American public schools?Biden announces new goal on vaccines: 200 million shots by his 100th day in office. pic.twitter.com/cM3bzC6BiW

Bipartisanmanship!Biden says nearly half of K through 8 schools in America are open full-time for in-person learning. "Not yet a majority," he says, acknowledging that opening a majority was the goal within his first 100 days, "but we’re really close.”

Crisis on the border!Biden says Republicans have to decide whether they will work with him or whether they will "divide the country"

Asks if people think the numbers went up under Trump at points because they thought he was a nice guy and they liked his policies. https://t.co/eD3JZG3lty
— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) March 25, 2021
Your move, Sen. Manchin:Biden blames Trump for border problems. "He dismantled all the elements that exist to deal with what had been a problem, and has been continuing to be a problem for a long time..What we're doing now is attempting to rebuild the system that can accommodate what is happening today"
— Manu Raju (@mkraju) March 25, 2021
And Sen. McConnell:Biden: "If there’s complete lockdown and chaos as a consequence of the filibuster then we’ll have to go beyond what I’m talking about.”

Announcing the death of a narrative unmourned:"This makes Jim Crow look like Jim Eagle," Biden says of legislation to restrict voting access in some states, like Georgia
— Jeremy Diamond (@JDiamond1) March 25, 2021
I think he's still talking to McConnell:Fascinating how "will Biden get teachers unions to re-open the schools" has evaporated as a question. They're not all open yet!
— Dave Weigel (@daveweigel) March 25, 2021
Biden signals he sees the future being defined as a choice between "autocracy or democracy."
— Jeremy Diamond (@JDiamond1) March 25, 2021
"That is what is at stake," he says as he discusses US-China relationship & makes clear this goes beyond China
"That's not where I am anymore, but ah yes, I remember it well!"Biden is asked if he thinks Trump would be his opponent in 2024. He said it's too soon to know. By then, "I have no idea if there will be a Republican Party. Do you?"

And now, the reviews!Biden on Congress: “They have to posture for a while.”
— Jake Sherman (@JakeSherman) March 25, 2021
Yes. This.
There’s a reason to express concern about a president not doing press conferences, but no question on covid or specifics on gun control is hard to fathom. https://t.co/ipPJgNsPqA

Be careful what you wish for:Biden Press Conference Review: Hour 1
— Tim Miller (@Timodc) March 25, 2021
✔️ Hasn't praised Nazis.
✔️ Hasn't praised Putin.
✔️ Hasn't praised his own mental acuity by recalling the phrase Person Woman Man Camera TV.
✔️ Hasn't gratuitously insulted anyone.
✔️ Hasn't suggested injecting anything into the body.
Both Trump and Putin have spent many months suggesting Biden could not answer simple questions, setting the bar so low for him he does not even need to jump over it.
— Susan Glasser (@sbg1) March 25, 2021
The "Biden has dementia" tweet brigade seems to be struggling somewhat during this press conference, but kudos to the guy who just tweeted that he is clearly "to week" to hold the job.
— Mark Harris (@MarkHarrisNYC) March 25, 2021
And in conclusion: SO SAY WE ALL!The basic idea of Biden as the first president in decades without any significant cult of personality is panning out so far https://t.co/4gesWh0Po5

The only puff question I want to be asked of Biden is about WHEN WE WILL SEE THE CAT
— Karen Attiah (@KarenAttiah) March 25, 2021
After Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, callow and irresponsible and too impressed with his own coolitude while being too smart to be as dumb as both of them were, I'm finding that I love Biden's style. If he keeps on like this he may turn out to be a great president when I didn't expect it at all.
ReplyDeletePrecisely the way I'm starting to think of him.
