I suppose to give advice on warming centers from the state would be to acknowledge they were needed.

Yes, the majority of power losses are in San Antonio, and are due to ice downing power lines. But the grid didn’t fail a year ago the moment the temperature dropped, and downed power lines take longer to repair than generators waiting for the cold snap to end. And this one has only begun.

Abbott said in November that the lights would stay on. Now he says there’s plenty of power (if you can get  it).  We’ll see. I just know there’s plenty of PTSD left over from last winter. I was shopping yesterday, and people were buying like a hurricane was coming. We’re only expecting two nights with sub-freezing temperatures, not days below freezing. But the fear of another February is strong. This 

ADDING: my Nest thermostat just told me there is a “Rush hour” announced by my power supplier from 18:00 to 21:00. This means the setting will be lowered unless I override it. The temperature is 33F, expected to drop to 26F by early tomorrow morning.  This is a normal temperature in Texas in February. Plenty of power, Governor?

And Texas Monthly’s cover article is about how Texas energy companies (most electricity generation is from natural gas) made sure the Texas Lege didn’t change things after February. Don’t know what makes me remember that…
