Strawbridge, the white lawyer allegedly representing asian american students, says that looking at "race alone" is not fair. Which of course no affirmative action program does.

Sotomayor asking why trying to get minority students to be integrated into schools. Strawbridge says it's okay for "remediation" and Sotomayor asks "But remediation for what? Slavery!"

Now Sotomayor making the point I made just earlier. That the lawyer is saying race is the *only* factor and Sotomayor says that's not what happens.

Strawbridge says that college admissions is a "zero sum game" and argues if race is ANY factor it's the critical one.

Gotta protect white people from racism. I mean, it’s only fair. (Conway actually retweeted arguments that what Harvard does is the same as when Harvard excluded Jews 100 years ago. So, all white people are Jewish now? I’m confused. 🫤). But I digress; back to my point:

Strawbridge says that UNC does not give racial preference to white applicants or Asian applicants.
KBJ asks: "Are you sure about that?" and then explains that *any* person can get a diversity bump, depending on how they need to build the class.

Sotomayor is again asking Strawbridge to cite ANY EVIDENCE that a school gave "an extra point" to anybody "merely for checking the box" on race.

I guess we weren’t through with the Harvard case yet.

Like, they're literally saying that a school can read an essay and figure out the race of an applicant, but they can't fill in a form with a checkbox next to race.

It's just a dumb and reductive argument.

The reasoning in this argument really is bad. White people gotta protect white privlege.

Strawbridge: "Some races get a benefit, some races do not get a benefit."

That's the core of this whole white people argument. Affirmative action is the ONE policy where white skin isn't an automatic boost to whatever the white man wants to do, and they hate it.

Thomas asking why there is an education benefit for diversity.
Lawyer: "I don't think it's actually disputed here that there are diversity benefits on all sides" and then quotes the opposing counsel's OWN expert.

So... you know, that is the modern conservative legal movement. Ask a question. GET AN ANSWER based on EXPERT TESTIMONY. Ignore the expert testimony answering their goddamn question because the answer doesn't fit their narrative.

Park points out that AAPI students have a HIGHER ADMISSIONS RATE than African Americans, which he notes is a "peculiar" result if you're arguing that UNC discriminates against them.

This so far, has been the only reference to the ACTUAL PLAINTIFFS IN THE CASE.

It's not an argument AGAINST admitting squash players, it's an argument AGAINST admitting black people, but pro admitting squash players, because having a good squash team doesn't trigger constitutional issues.
