Looking Forward 👀

There’s two big problems with part of the Balanced Budget agreement McCarthy broached with the House conservative holdouts, it’s that it would require two things to work:

- Defense budget cuts
- Cuts to Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security

Neither category will pass the Senate nor be signed by Biden. So this is going to be a fight. An interminable one.

I no longer believe there are any “moderate” Republicans waiting for overtures from the Democrats to impose a “moderate” Speaker and get things done this session. They don’t exist.

There’s nothing to be done but fight in the trenches and try not to default on the U.S.debt for the next two years.
