Why in God’s name would some Republicans in Congress threaten to default on our debt if we don't agree to their Social Security and Medicare cuts?

Republicans exploded when Biden saud they want to sunset Social Security. Then Rick Scott said: "Yeah, that’s just what I want to do!”

In my plan, I suggested the following: All federal legislation sunsets in 5 yrs. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.

Sen Scott pooh-poohs the idea that he is serious. Would Congress sunset the Navy, he asks rhetorically? Then why go through the empty gestures? This is like Ted Cruz announcing his third term in office by announcing he’ll run again, while advocating term limits of two terms. 

They don’t mean it to happen. They just mean it to happen.

No wonder they squealed like stuck pigs and claimed Biden “baited” them.
