As opposed to the days when everyone got their news from Walter Cronkite or Huntley and Brinkley, and chose their newspaper based on its editorial leanings."Growing numbers of Americans are simply not aware of what is happening beyond their own lives, and don’t want to be."

And nobody accepted that maybe there was something wrong with a war in Vietnam or that maybe Dr. King had a point, because the news uniformly reassured them everything was as it should be and the only complaints came from cranks who didn’t appreciate the status quo. Yeah, it was so much better when there wasn’t rampant regionalism in politics and “outside agitators” were a common part of public discourse until “states rights” meant “Leave Bull Conner alone.” Halcyon days, halcyon days, that some people are too young to remember, but imagine it was better then than these “degenerate times.”
When will they ever learn?
