I don’t think he understands the Speakership is a job, not just a gavel. He wouldn’t want it if he did.
And considering how many Republicans voted to keep McCarthy, how many would vote to install Trump? Aside from the 8 who voted with the Democrats? I’m guessing outside those 8, the rest of the House Republicans understand the speakership is a real job, not just a figurehead.
And Trump in the office would be worse than no Speaker at all.
Besides, he’d get bored as soon as he found out he had to live in D.C., and that he still wasn’t immune from prosecution.
