The local school board has a $35 million hole in the budget thanks to Abbott and the Lege refusing, after one regular session and an historic 4 special sessions, to fund public education in Texas. As a result the board had to vote recently to close several schools and consolidate classrooms and teachers. And that only covered $11 million of the deficit. More cuts and pain are coming. 

That vote was initially postponed because the boardroom was so crowded the fire marshal canceled the meeting and ordered the building emptied. At the next regular meeting a month later the board approved the closings despite strong pushback from audience members. The numbers, after all, are the numbers.

The people listed there are State Senators and Representatives; all Republicans. During the regular session they told the school board, to their faces (in personal meetings) and in print, to pound sand. They also tried to blame the district for the problem they caused.
