MSNBC reports that Trump only reacted once during oral arguments: when his lawyer, in rebuttal, said Trump is leading in the polls.

Like a dog, who, amid all the words he doesn’t understand, hears his name mentioned.

ADDENDUM: This is essentially the legal argument John Sauer made before the appellate court, although this is John Lauro speaking to the press after the hearing:

"We can't have a country where every four years there is a cycle of political recrimination where one administration attacks a prior administration, when in fact that candidate is leading in the polls and will be the next president of the United States," Lauro said, referring to Trump.
Frankly, Trump’s standing in the polls has nothing to do with the quality of  his legal liability.

I heard the panel question the DOJ about this “opening the floodgates” argument, but I don’t think the judges were particularly concerned about it.
