The theology here is that there is no theology, only power. The evangelicals backing Trump and this wholly un-Biblical nonsense have sold their birthright for a mess of pottage. This morning on Truth Social, Trump uploaded a disturbing ad annointing himself a prophet. Make no mistake- God made Trump. As a test. A test these lost Evangelicals are failing terribly. pic.twitter.com/KnOgEvUs4M

Even Biblically (and I use the term only in relation to stories in Scripture, scripture being (once) a touchstone of conservative Protestants), David was the one “chosen leader,” And even as he was all too human, Matthew and Luke pointedly connected Jesus directly to David’s lineage through Joseph. Part of the argument of those two gospels is that Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One (what the title “Christ” means), the chosen one, because of his ancestry. Paul makes much the same argument for why Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, but he does so based on the life Jesus lived, and the reason he died.
What are the claims made for Trump?
I don’t actually expect Trump to give a rat’s ass about this. He’ll accept any accolade; one proclaiming him the new David (actually “Christ,” if you’re following closely) suits him as well as Alina Habba declaring him a victim of the Deep State. It’s all one to Trump, who doesn’t know King David from Two Corinthians.
It’s the evangelicals I fault and hold accountable. This is blasphemy, and they should know it. That they don’t calls into question they’re profession of faith.
My only note on Biden's campaign speech is that he didn't bring this up.
