Change the facts, change the outcome. No criminal defendant — however innocent — wants “his day in court to clear his name.” Juries are unpredictable and anyone facing a felony conviction would much prefer to avoid a trial entirely!

Let’s not forget everything we know about criminal law just because it’s Trump. https://t.co/HiOMH70Lle
What does it say about Trump (and the US) that the presumptive Republican nominee has made over a dozen failed requests not to have his day in court to clear his name?

Jury selection starts Monday. Trump’s lawyers need to be preparing for that trial. Competent lawyers would be telling Trump they aren’t going to waste time and money pissing off the judges (trial and appellate!), when jury selection starts Monday.
But it’s perfectly clear by now Trump can’t hire competent lawyers. He will only hire lawyers who do what he tells them to do. Again, the contrast with Hunter Biden is instructive. Biden faces a fairly dubious criminal charge and has made the House crazies pound sand because he hired a damned good lawyer, and followed that lawyer’s advice.
Trump is his own worst enemy. He’s running a scorched earth strategy, and retreating into it.
