I'm not a fan of war and the glory that supposedly stems from it. But I'm fine with honoring people. I much prefer it over honoring flags (bits of cloth, after all), or public offices (are the holders worthy?), institutions (don't get me started). People I can show due honor to, especially when combined with the humility of the powerful honoring them, too.The Medal of Honor is so revered that it's the only decoration specially emblazoned on headstones in Arlington National Cemetery.
