Much, much older than the 1980’s. This lie is as American as cherry pie.🥧 

American xenophobia has always rested on the fear of contagion.😷 It was (is) official policy, and often used in propaganda to stir up hatred against immigrants.

Ironically, its historical roots lie in the diseases Europeans brought to this continent. Diseases they had developed immunity to, but that the natives hadn’t.
