Large language models “are not emotionally intelligent or ‘smart’ in any meaningful or recognizably human sense of the word,” Tyler Austin Harper writes. Understanding this is essential to avoiding AI’s most corrosive effects:I’m old enough to remember when 8 track tapes were revolutionary. And BetaMax was the future. Or VCR’s. Or TiVo. And “mini-discs” were going to revolutionize the way we stored music. So I’m sure AI is on the brink of changing the world more than movable type did.
Is that going to be before, or after, we all give up our cellphones for “smart glasses”? 🤓 (And how is that supposed to work for those of us who, you know, have to wear glasses anyway? Sort of like AI will change everything?)
