Sharecroppers, too. This man’s not getting his ROI! That’s what real pain is!From his perch as a long-time global currency trader on Wall Street, Bessent also invested $25 million in Midwest land, which he leases out to actual farmers. He is not a “soybean farmer.” https://t.co/fedyo39FWO

Because Trump and Bessent only deal in truth! Fuck yeah!WELKER: Why is the president setting trade policy based on a TV ad he doesn't like?

Let them eat cake.WELKER: Coffee prices are up 19%, beef is up almost 15%, and bacon up almost 6% just to name a few. So when are all grocery prices going to come down as President Trump promised?

I looked into Bessent's "farming". He owns land, upon which he collects between $100K and a million on a "revenue sharing" agreement. What that usually means anymore is, he's getting a fairly high base cash rent no matter what commodity prices are doing. If commodity prices go above set levels he will get a piece of that action as well, depending to some extent on the actual yield. Being who he is, he could very well have some other, shadier, agreement.
ReplyDeleteI doubt you will be surprised to learn Bessent said, if confirmed, he would be selling the farmland. Nobody quite knew at the time "conflict of interest" was going to be totally erased from the national vocabulary.
So, 21st century sharecropping. Faulkner was right: the past isn’t over; it isn’t even past.
DeleteHe is rapidly becoming the gay man I hate the most, outdoing Lindsay Graham and Mike Johnson and John Roberts, though John Roberts will be hard to beat for that title.
ReplyDeleteThe one I couldn’t post (technical issues?) was Bessent explaining to CBS that they were picking prices (groceries, coffee, daily needs) that were up, while he could cite prices that were down. Like…the price of soybeans?
