Scott Bessent Explains It All For You

First he channels his inner Bill Clinton. But instead, gets Marie Antoinette. In the words of emptywheel, “Let them eat ballroom.” Peasants should be happy with their lot. Sharecroppers, too. This man’s not getting his ROI! That’s what real pain is! Because Trump and Bessent only deal in truth! Fuck yeah!
WELKER: Will the 10% tariffs apply to all Canadian goods?

BESSENT: I've been traveling since this unfortunate event happened. We'll have to see

WELKER: Does the president know if the tariffs will apply to all Canadian goods?

BESSENT: I'm sure he knows. Whatever is going on back in North America I think is taking second fiddle to President Trump's leadership out here in the Pacific
So Trump CAN’T walk and chew gum? Good to know. (And only Trump knows how his tariffs apply? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?) Let them eat cake.
It could have been radon. It could have been brain worms. It could have been mole men. You don’t know!

A backhoe is not an approved method of asbestos abatement/removal.  But Trump is a master builder, so I’m sure he knew that. Ummm…okay, sure.

  1. I looked into Bessent's "farming". He owns land, upon which he collects between $100K and a million on a "revenue sharing" agreement. What that usually means anymore is, he's getting a fairly high base cash rent no matter what commodity prices are doing. If commodity prices go above set levels he will get a piece of that action as well, depending to some extent on the actual yield. Being who he is, he could very well have some other, shadier, agreement.

I doubt you will be surprised to learn Bessent said, if confirmed, he would be selling the farmland. Nobody quite knew at the time "conflict of interest" was going to be totally erased from the national vocabulary.

    1. So, 21st century sharecropping. Faulkner was right: the past isn’t over; it isn’t even past.

  2. He is rapidly becoming the gay man I hate the most, outdoing Lindsay Graham and Mike Johnson and John Roberts, though John Roberts will be hard to beat for that title.

    1. The one I couldn’t post (technical issues?) was Bessent explaining to CBS that they were picking prices (groceries, coffee, daily needs) that were up, while he could cite prices that were down. Like…the price of soybeans?
