Free Speech Radio News reported today that people who did not leave New Orleans during the flood, were not eligible for emergency funds from FEMA. One man, who fled his home in the now twice-flooded Ninth Ward to stay with a friend in Algiers, is ineligible for emergency funds from FEMA because he didn't leave town. He is one of many.
It makes me think the Red Cross was right when they said FEMA didn't want anyone to stay in the city.
It seems also that FEMA is cutting off emergency aid to New Orleans residents, despite the fact the system has been plagued by access problems. The rough rude beast continues to slouch through New Orleans towards Bedlam, for chaos to be born.
At what point do we stop allowing abstractions to be the excuse, and start holding individuals accountable for gross incompetence?
