I like this for pretty much one reason: the assertion that religion is the root of all evil in the world is not only childish and ignorant, it's an argument for driving everyone we fear or don't like into the sea, because it's easier than sorting out how we fit into each other's world.
And while technically that attitude may not be racism because it isn't only about race, it is the raison d'etre of racism, the telos of it, if you will.
random thoughts:
ReplyDelete1) satire is something you do for your friends' amusement, mostly. it doesn't go far in changing anyone's mind who isn't already on your side
2) there's this underlying attitude that the rules all cut one way- that *i* can say whatever i want, but *you* have to abide by my standards if and when you push back
3) absolutism is the source of more problems than either religion or the lack of it
Satire is most useful when punching UP.
