Treasury sent more than 1 million coronavirus stimulus payments, worth $1.4 billion, to dead people. The IRS has no plan to recoup the payments beyond requesting they be returned. https://t.co/njXmkT5AjA— Katie Benner (@ktbenner) June 25, 2020
I got one of these, on behalf of my recently deceased mother.
The envelope said to check the box and drop it back in the mail if the receipient was dead.
Had I known, would I have just cashed the check? No, probably not, but Jay-sus this is no way to run a railroad. We can block anyone from finding out who got the money, and apparently that includes government itself.
ETTD, indeed.
I never got one, I wonder if it's because I'm self-employed. Maybe I should check into it, I haven't taught a lesson since February. Or maybe I should die and they'll send me one.
