Trump confirms he will be doing a rally himself instead of having musical acts perform for America’s 250th anniversary celebration after many backed out:Trump took its money away. For this.
“We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home.”
Trump says there will be a handful of speakers, military bands, Lee Greenwood, and a speech from himself.
Trump: "On Wednesday, June 24th, at 7 P.M., in magnificent Washington, D.C., now totally beautified, and one of the Safest Cities anywhere in the World, and in celebration of our Country’s 250 Year History, we will be bringing you, LIVE, the Greatest Rally, EVER! It will be special at every level — A Rally to end all Rallies! We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home. All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played, the same Music you have listened to for years! We will have the fabulous Lee Greenwood introducing me with what has turned out to be one of the Greatest Hits of All Time, GOD BLESS THE U.S.A., and the amazing Christopher Macchio, who will sing Nessun Dorma, Hallelujah, Ave Maria, God Bless America, and others — Not since the legendary Luciano Pavarotti has there been such a voice! The Rally will also be featuring the wonderful U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” and Armed Forces Choir, and “The President’s Own” Unites States Marine Band, with the Joint Armed Forces Chorus, all of your favorite Hits, PLUS a fine and highly dignified gentleman known as, President DONALD J. TRUMP!"A rally to end all rallies? Promise? If it’s as bad as I expect, it should do that.

Pulmonary doc here. Falling asleep like this is very suggestive of a sleep disorder. POTUS needs a sleep study. And POTUS’ doctors need to be honest about the presidents declining health. https://t.co/FJ47ZmMVFM

Anyone think it’s odd that every event is just a bunch of sycophants standing behind an immobile president pretending it’s normal? https://t.co/1jSeoch8Tl

i was super excited about the bicentennial when i was a wee lad. i can't find a shit to give about celebrating the 250th year of our tottering republic.
ReplyDeleteYup. My experience, exactly.
DeleteMy parents have moved into assisted living, and I am working, along with an estate sale agent's team to clean out there house. A few weeks ago in a box of memorabilia I found the souvenir tickets for when as a family we visited the Freedom Train in 1976. Our nation's 200th celebration puts Trump's plans to shame. (And I didn't save them, my parent's hoarding accumulations are lesson in being able to let go of such things.)
ReplyDeleteI only recently learned that Congress had established a committee to plan celebrations if the 250th, as it did in 1976. But Trump and a spineless Congress bulldozed that so he could make the semiquincentennial all about him. And what a fucking disaster it’s going to be. If we had a functioning Congress, Trump wouldn’t be holding cage matches on the South lawn, that he has a financial interest in. I’m ready to see the Republican Party burned to the ground and purged from memory like the Whigs and the Federalists. The only reason it hasn’t happened yet is that we can’t function with a one party system, and no claimant to the place of the GOP has arisen. But more and more I think the rot and stink and corruption is not just Trump and the people he brought into his administration. Impeachment and removal would have to be the beginning of cleaning the Augean stables, not the end. But I have no confidence in that, at all.
ReplyDeleteI worked the first half of the summer of ‘76 for a paving company so I would have the money to go to DC and Boston. Even weeks after the 4th DC was just a constant party, musical performances of every stripe all up and down and alongside the reflecting pool, everybody eating outside, most people happy that Nixon was out and the Vietnam War was over and the Republic was alive and well and had reached 200. Boston of course was more subdued, but there was the Old North Church, and the Freedom Walk, and Cambridge Common, where Washington took command of the Continental Army, all decked out. I even snapped a picture of a sword swallower .
