...that all conservatives have ever wanted to do since Newt Gingrich was to "own" the libs. They were always like the dog chasing the car: they hated government, they derided government, government was "the problem not the solution." But the people saying that were always Republicans in...government. What better way to own the libs than to take over the libs favorite thing (government) and then refuse to let it do anything because government "close to the people" is best. What else are they gonna do with the car when they catch it?This plan, of course, contradicts everything every conservative ever has said about the importance of local government. https://t.co/soYnOtcQBt via @CharlesPPierce

Until they suddenly find government useful, that is; and then government closest at hand is clearly better than government far away in the home state or county or city.
Yeah, I think "owning the libs" was really the only "principle" they ever had. So Mitch McConnell would rather see the country collapse and the poor become the ptochoi rather than help, because he's the "Grim Reaper" who has a graveyard full of legislation the "libs" wanted to pass and he wouldn't let them. Although he loves as many conservative Federal judges as he can get on the bench, because that's not "big government" (well, not for the people who matter; everyone knows some people have more "rights" than others, based largely on pocketbooks), that's just: "owning the libs."
I swear we've positively let the children take over in this country. I blame the boomers. I don't think we ever really grew up and took on adult responsibilities.
