Well, I don’t know what to follow. Now that Rubio is contradicting Axios' reporting, it would be nice for them to own up about who gave them the draft and why they said it was written by the US. Witkoff himself posted (accidentally) that he thought it was leaked by Dmitriev of Russia. 2/https://t.co/UoCrlu13Q1

Correction: Axios first reported on their leak on Nov. 18 (not 19). They called it a "28-point U.S. plan", citing unnamed Russian and US officials. But now the US Sec. of State denies it's from the US at all. Lesson: don't print motivated leaks from anons - don't be a tool. 4/ pic.twitter.com/1LGdtE6JSc

Just to be clear:Welp, now Rubio is back to saying the US wrote the surrender plan - so Senators are lying? And Axios says they didn't see the document til AFTER reporting details with titles like "between the lines" - so it wasn't a "leak", someone REALLY briefed them. 6/https://t.co/nveXARYF87

If the 28-point plan came from Russia and somehow ended up in the hands of U.S. lawmakers, then we don’t have a “leak” problem we have a foreign influence problem. And anyone downplaying that should not be anywhere near national security decisions. https://t.co/WOlSuFEo6p

So Trump was threatening Ukraine to sign a deal that was fully created by Russia. Karoline Leavitt kept touting this as a good plan.

This is a bombshell scandal. https://t.co/FrSy0MwNCM
Someone should get fired for this.

Axios ran with it as “Trump’s peace plan.”
Trump used it to pressure Ukraine this week.
Rubio and Witkoff allowed it to fester in the public without any pushback.
A mistake of epic proportion. https://t.co/dj6h8OKfJA
King: According to Secretary Rubio, this plan is not the administration’s position — it is essentially the Russians’ wish list that is now being presented to the Europeans and to the Ukrainians. pic.twitter.com/8KKMAXLHyQ

This is blatantly false.

As Secretary Rubio and the entire Administration has consistently maintained, this plan was authored by the United States, with input from both the Russians and Ukrainians. https://t.co/wVuDO4iXE6
A truly bizarre series of events.

Senators from both parties said in Halifax that Rubio told them via phone today that the Ukraine peace plan is actually a Russian document, not a U.S. proposal.
State Department spox says that’s not true, it’s a U.S.-authored proposal.
??? https://t.co/E7DKCsLw8b
The peace proposal was authored by the U.S.

It is offered as a strong framework for ongoing negotiations
It is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine. https://t.co/JWbAQ04kcw

Shaheen: I have made it clear that I believe this is a Russian proposal. I hope that tomorrow’s negotiations in Geneva focus on a real framework that guarantees an outcome benefiting Ukraine rather than Russia. Any real peace plan must be sustainable and backed by Ukraine’s government and its people. And it should be developed in full consideration and consultation with our allies.

Rounds: Senator Shaheen mentioned that Secretary Rubio did make a phone call to us this afternoon. I think he made it very clear that we are the recipients of a proposal that was delivered to one of our representatives. It is not our recommendation. It is not our peace plan. It is a proposal that was received and, as an intermediary, we have made arrangements to share it. We did not release it — it was leaked. It was not released by our members or our representatives. Can you say “Clusterfuck”? I thought you could.
There are administratoons that have a lot of "firsts," as this one does and for the Trumpsters, almost all of those "firsts" are also "worsts."
ReplyDeleteThe US wrote up a plan in the same sense a secretary who takes dictation (we're probably all old enough to understand that) writes a business letter. At this point they fool nobody but themselves- which is maybe the most dangerous part of all this.
