Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and ransomed his people. He has raised up for us a horn of salvation in the house of David his servant. This is what he promised in the words of his holy prophets of old: deliverance from our enemies, and from the hands of all who hate us; mercy to our ancestors, and the remembrance of his holy covenant. This is the oath he swore to Abraham our ancestor: to grant that we be rescued from the hands of our enemies, to serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, t give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins. In the heartfelt mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those sitting in darkness, in the shadow of death, to guide our feet in the way of peace.
