On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP. The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied,..— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 30, 2019
That was only 8 days ago. And what did we get?
Here is what the State Department released. pic.twitter.com/dBmBclmOf5— Zachary Cohen (@ZcohenCNN) June 8, 2019
A press release. What, exactly, constitutes "unprecedented steps"? How do we measure their effectiveness? How does this "STOP" "illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our country." Seems we asked that question once before:
.@WhiteHouse just wrapped a call about Mexico tariffs. Someone asked what is a metric that set for success here when the tariffs can be taken off.— Elizabeth Landers (@ElizLanders) May 31, 2019
Mulvaney: “We did not set a specific percentage or specific number” says admin will assess on “a day to day and week to week basis”
And it doesn't stop there, actually. Mexico just agrees to take the immigrants back after we send them across the border to await asylum hearings. And are these "unprecedented steps" also going to be evaluated on "a day to day and week to week basis"?
Nope! Crisis averted! All is was it was before! Any further questions just impede the victory lap the POTUS is....walking (well, he can hardly run, can he?).
Predictable as sunrise.
