Excellent analysis there. But who can say what will happen? Please take the time to read this analysis of GOP strategy for ultimately refusing to hear witnesses at impeachment trial and making folks think this is fair. This seems to be working. This is why President Trump was impeached for obstruction of Congress, and why a Senate trial with no witnesses or documents is a cover-up. #EndTheCoverUp #DefendOurDemocracy pic.twitter.com/w9Gl5VmjBu— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) January 14, 2020
Which doesn't seem to be the best news for McConnell. This is the second poll of this nature with similar results: 66% of voters want to hear former Trump national security adviser John Bolton testify in the Senate trial. That overall 66% includes 39% of Republicans. https://t.co/H78A7DFD8n— Duty To Warn 🔉 (@duty2warn) January 14, 2020
The White House isn't helping.KILMEADE: "Mitt Romney wants to see John Bolton as a witness. What's your reaction to that? Do you also want to see John Bolton as a witness...?"— Ryan Struyk (@ryanstruyk) January 14, 2020
GIDLEY: "Well, yes, no. No, but, I'm saying, we don't really care who comes forward because the president's done nothing wrong."
This may, or may not, mean what it sounds like.NEW: Lamar Alexander says he wants a guaranteed vote on whether to call witnesses or more documents later in the Trump impeachment trial.— Laura Litvan (@LauraLitvan) January 14, 2020
That brings it to magic number of 51 senators who would want that opportunity (47 Dems plus GOP’s Collins, Murkowski and Romney.)
Isn't that the point of calling witnesses?Do these guys hear themselves talk? https://t.co/htcxrUFMdF— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) January 14, 2020
And this is still the case.Schumer on delaying the articles of impeachment: "Some of the Republicans are now beginning to say, 'maybe we need witnesses and documents.' Had Nancy sent the stuff right over and McConnell moved to dismiss, who knows what would have happened?" Via ABC pic.twitter.com/7rapD7NbCj— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) January 14, 2020
Also worth keeping in mind is that the GOP hold on the Senate is razor thin. If the Democrats can flip just a few seats, they can control Congress.
