Remember when nobody would say "Merry Christmas!"?
Reminds me of the only time I ever remember being told not to say "merry Christmas" was when the French Canadian nuns who taught us Sunday School, in the annual ritual of them presenting the present for the priest we were all supposed to donate five cents to buying was given to him, they told us not to say "Merry Christmas" "merry" being too frivolous for a holy day, they told us to say "Blessed Christmas". I don't think I've thought of that in almost fifty eight years. I remember Sr. Andrea playing the horrible out-of tune piano in the church hall (Catholics are friggin' cheapskates when it comes to music) and Sr. Jean leading us in a song, though I don't remember the song. Just as well.
