There Be Monsters

Everytime I read about what Dan Patrick told Tucker Carlson, it gets worse:

During his latest interview on Fox News, Patrick said that, in Texas, the death toll wasn’t high enough to warrant shutting down the entire state. According to the latest data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, 19,458 Texans have been sickened from the virus, while 495 have died.

“Let’s face reality of where we are: In Texas, we have 29 million people. We’ve lost 495 and every life is valuable, but 500 people out of 29 million and we’re locked down,” Patrick said.

Some lives are more valuable than others, though.  No, this isn't 1984; it's Animal Farm.

I still want Patrick to go first.  If he wants others to be martyrs to the cause, he really should set the example.

517 people have died in Texas as of April 21, which is 22 more than had died on April 20, and 199 more than died a week ago.  When should we start being concerned about this, Mr. Patrick?  When our healthcare system is breaking, like NYC's almost did?  Over 20,000 Texans have the virus, and will likely suffer lifelong infirmities.  I've lived in towns in Texas smaller than that.  20,000, even 500, may not seem like many to Patrick, out of 29 million.  But I can put faces to at least that many people.  Economies can recover and even be healthy again; people infected with this disease may not.  Are they all fit sacrifices on the altar of your great green god?  How many of your children and grandchildren do you offer as tribute?  When are you going to get infected to show us the way?
