.@weijia: Why is this a global competition to you when Americans are losing their lives every day?— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 11, 2020
TRUMP: Maybe that's a question you should ask China.
WEIJA: Why are you saying that to me, specifically?
TRUMP: I'm saying it to anybody who would ask a nasty question like that. pic.twitter.com/hokJOXASh8
Shot.
In a moment of American weakness unlike any of us have ever seen. Trump is the architect of that weakness. He is the instrument of our precipitous national decline. Recovery from this disaster will take many years. Trump is not capable at any level of leading it. The (6)— Steve Schmidt (@SteveSchmidtSES) May 11, 2020
Chaser.
And I assume what Trump is challenging is any attempt by China to make a vaccine, as if that were a matter of national security tantamount to China gaining "the Bomb." Then again, as Schmidt said of Trump's Inaugural Address:
dreams of a noxious mix of conspiracy theorists, demagogic commentators and dishonest propaganda platforms getting rich by spreading the disinformation planted by foreign intelligence services. Three years on it turns out Trump’s speech was prophecy. He has brought devastation— Steve Schmidt (@SteveSchmidtSES) May 11, 2020
So I guess we can say at least Trump is consistent.
Moments later:
Turns out I gave Trump too much credit. The reporter was challenging Trump's claims on testing; her question had nothing to do with China and vaccines. The reporter is Chinese-American. It was just Trump being a racist. Again.
Another disgraceful, racist, temper tantrum by Trump b/c he was asked a pointed question by @weijia— Tara Setmayer (@TaraSetmayer) May 11, 2020
Classy move by @kaitlancollins to allow her to follow up to challenge Trump’s obnoxious “ask China” comment.
Trump can’t handle smart, assertive women. @Honestly_Tara https://t.co/kOshBWFh2G
Classy.
