This is the go-to response to Trump. Whatever he says marks the end of the world as we know it, and I alone am escaped alive to tell thee.Trump believed that running for president would bestow some kind of immunity on him - that prosecutors would be so intimidated by the politics and historical gravity of it that they would be forced to ignore his crimes. If the institutions don’t hold now, he will destroy them.

Trump is feral; but he’s not smart. Back in power, he’d be a bull in the china shop, probably more dangerous than he was the first time around. But right now? The DOJ regs say they can’t instigate an investigation (or a prosecution?) within 60 days of an election. I don’t think that’s a magic salt line that bars them from going to trial (the court controls the docket), and I think it’s only meant to prevent an “October surprise.”
Trump wants his campaign announcement (“campaigning” is a stretch. He’s been playing golf for four straight weeks.) to be his “King’s ‘X’/Get Out Of Jail Free card.” It isn’t, but like a child he insists it is until it becomes so. He wants a magic shield to protect him from the consequences of his actions, because Daddy’s money and the usual low level of his crimes (yes, he probably violated New York law more than once before Alan Bragg took an interest. But now he has attention he never had before.) aren’t doing it anymore.
But all the king’s horses and all the king’s men can’t put Humpty together again. His eggs are well and truly scrambled. No reason to make more of him than that.
They would not indict Trump if he wasn’t running for President in 2024.

This is election interference.
