Finders Keepers

 Angry Trump:

"WOW! FAKE NEWS CNN, THROUGH A LEAK FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF INJUSTICE, HAS JUST REPORTED THAT NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED IN THE (MUCH BIGGER THAN MINE!!!) CROOKED JOE BIDEN DOCUMENTS CASE. WE ARE LIVING IN A VERY CORRUPT COUNTRY!"

Well, yeah...no:

1/ There is news that the special council investigating classified documents found in Joe Biden's office is unlikely to charge him, just like Mike Pence wasn't charged after documents were found in his office. What makes them different from Donald Trump?

2/ Trump was given every chance to return the documents after the National Archives realized they were missing. Biden & Pence both self-reported. The biggest problem for Trump is his lengthy history of trying to hold onto documents when asked, even subpoenaed, for them.

But the issue of why he took the boxes and was so determined to keep the boxes goes on unaddressed:

We have, of course, the benefit of consultation with our clients and are able to talk about what video we should be looking at and what video we should not be looking at. And the entire nature of the allegations, of the charges in this case are about missing boxes, right? The indictment is charging Mr. Nauta - and I'll just stick with my client, with Mr. Nauta - with having moved boxes. Some number of boxes come out of a storage room, a lesser number of boxes go into the storage room, and Mr. Nauta is charged with hiding those boxes from whether it is Trump's then counsel or whether it is the Government. And obviously, we are interested in knowing where those boxes are if they are, in fact, missing. The CCTVfootage is what is going to help us understand that riddle.

Now, the Government does not know where those boxes went. As far as I can tell, to this day, the Government does not know where the boxes they allege were hidden ended up.

That's Stan Woodward, Walt Nauta's attorney, speaking in open court on the record.  So why are the documents missing?  And where did they go?

That is, it's not just that Aileen Cannon has deprived Republican voters [in her latest ruling delaying CIPA hearings] of knowing whether Trump left nuclear documents in his bathroom.

She has also deprived voters of knowing whether Trump gave boxes of documents to his Saudi bosses.

That's actually looking more and more like a question that needs an answer, because it raises the stakes even more. But the question of where the documents are, and why did Trump try so hard to keep them all (and what did he do with the missing ones)?  It really is unfathomable that he didn't see some market for some (all?) of them.
