So, Condi Rice (on NPR just now) continues to sound like she's sabre-rattling in Iran's direction (I thought the Secretary of State was supposed to be in charge of diplomacy), and yet the German diplomat who speaks for the Europeans says that, after a great deal of pressure exerted on the Bush Administration, they have finally agreed with Europe, to give peace and diplomacy a chance.
Why was that so hard?
Is Iraq going so well? Is the lesson we've learned from that little adventure that this is fun, and let's do it some more? That it was easy, and knocking over another country will be a walk in the park? That if we aren't tough now, Lebanon might decide to embrace the Syrian army after all (oops! too late!)?
Or is it all about bluster, and no one really knows what they're doing, but heaven forbid they admit it? I think that's the only explanation for the Bolton nomination.
