Let's be clear about one thing:



This "surge" is to secure Baghdad. Not to "win the war" (what war? Who are we at war with?). Not to pacify the country. Not to stabilize the society (and when did the military ever do that, except maybe in Sparta?).

This troop increase, and the $5.8 billion that is supposed to accompany it, is to secure one city. One.

The mightiest military power in the world. And after 3+ years, we can't secure one city.

But 21,500 more battle weary troops, and another $6 billion, will do the trick. And if you believe that, I've gone some fine property in southern Louisiana to sell you. Trust me. You'll love it.
