Final Thoughts of the Day

Yes, we're still right here: Not only a summation of the case against Trump (look, in the days to come, for any recognition from Trump of what this two minutes means to his future), but a succinct statement of the present. Trump is still pursuing a domestic political errand, and he's still doing it through Ukraine. By not doing anything for Ukraine, because he doesn't give a shit about Ukraine. The country is already poison to him. Trump only cares about Trump, how much trouble is that going to cost the nation before he's removed?

    It's not just Trump, it is the entire Republican Party and, most of all, the self-driving vehicle that Putin used to put Trump in office, the media. The same media that, as the ordure of Republican-fascism was on full display for hours in the hearings all week stank to high heavens, concentrated on an ill-timed fart by Eric Swalwell. I had thought that the blatant antisemitism towards Lt. Col. Vindman might turn that, antisemitism being the only heretofore absolute third rail of moral atrocity in the media, but it's clear Trumpian fascism has even crushed that norm.

    We are in far more serious trouble than I'd thought a month ago and it's looking worse even as the crimes are revealed and pooh-poohed. This morning on the NPR website, in their headlines about Fiona Hill's testimony about the Putin-Trump-FOX peddled blaming of Ukraine for ratfucking the 2016 election, they've put the word "fictional" in scare quotes. The press, freed to lie, serves its own interests, not democracy or other aspects of morality.
