We Aren't Great Britain, After All

Says the guy who broke with "tradition" to deny Obama a Supreme Court nominee.

And considering how badly Trump has fucked tradition, I don't think that argument has much merit anymore.  The Constitution is not a mutual suicide pact; and tradition is not a noose by which we strangle self-governance.  Having cut down all the trees to get to the Devil, Trump & Co. now find they have no protection left to themselves.

This, by the way, is what McConnell calls "classless:"

“This election that’s coming up on every level is so important because what we’re going to be battling is not just a particular individual or a political party,” Obama said on the call. “What we’re fighting against is these long-term trends in which being selfish, being tribal, being divided, and seeing others as an enemy—that has become a stronger impulse in American life. And by the way, we’re seeing that internationally as well. It’s part of the reason why the response to this global crisis has been so anemic and spotty. It would have been bad even with the best of governments. It has been an absolute chaotic disaster when that mindset—of ‘what’s in it for me’ and ‘to heck with everybody else’—when that mindset is operationalized in our government.”

Where are my smelling salts?  I feel all faint and woozy!  My ears are not used to such harsh language!

You could say that's about Trump; but it speaks in terms of the electorate, of the nation.  I'm not gonna bother posting any of Trump's tweets about Obama personally, or "Obamagate," which even GOP Senators don't want to talk about.

Enjoy what you've done, fellas.  This one's entirely on you.
