March 11 was arguably the day life changed: the president gave an ill-received speech, markets fell, Tom Hanks said he tested positive, and the NBA played its final games. Other sports and most schools closed within days. March 11 was five months ago today.— Steve Inskeep (@NPRinskeep) August 11, 2020
Sometimes the painfully obvious is what needs to be said:
Five months from today would be January 11, 2021, which is to say after election day and the holidays, and nine days before the next presidential inauguration. There is no reason to expect those five months to be less eventful than the past five.— Steve Inskeep (@NPRinskeep) August 11, 2020
I promise you if I'm elected, I won't waste any time getting this virus under control.— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) August 11, 2020
I'll call Dr. Fauci and ask him to stay on. I'll bring together top experts and leaders from both parties to chart a path forward.
We'll get it done, together.
Still, not gonna happen five months after January 20, 2021. Better late then never was never so true a sentiment, though.
