The Stupid Will Always Be With You

She went on to ask the senator whether he believed that efforts to combat climate change would replace COVID-19 as “the next step to locking Americans down and controlling them in perpetuity.”

“That and the vaccine passports,” Johnson replied.

So here in Texas, land of the free and home of Gov. Absent (have I mentioned how the GOP Lege ignored the laundry list of legislative accomplishments the Gov. laid out for them at the beginning of the session?  Yeah, 5 weeks left and no action on any of his suggestions, and I don't think he'll call them back for a special session just to get to them.  They voted on them by not having to vote on them.  Gov. Absent is looking more and more like the right moniker.), where counties and cities can't impose masks anymore (I don't know if that injunction that was denied the AG was put in place by an appellate court over Travis County's actions, but nobody is really listening to Gov. Absent anymore), businesses are still doing so.

Some places requires masks, some suggest them, a few don't at all.  But while you'll see maskless people on photos from Texas, from my experience people in public without masks are as rare as hen's teeth.  And stores that insist you wear a mask can still have you arrested for trespass if you make a big stink about it; though that has died down, too (amazing how the threat of jail suddenly makes "but, muh freedumb!" not seem quite so important to insist upon, especially over a matter so trivial.).

"Vaccine passports" haven't happened yet, and I doubt they will.  They were an idea businesses came up with as a way to guarantee the safety of their employees and their customers. The enforcement would be the problem.  Businesses just don't want to step into that.  Easier to require masks until somebody declares "herd immunity" or at least "ollie ollee oxen free!"

But, you know, it's all a government plot.

Or maybe we are all sheeple, we the people who keep wearing masks because it seems like the least we can do (the number of vaccinations is falling off, especially among those under 65.  I guess young people don't want a Bill Gates microchip recording their thoughts....).  I've been vaccinated; I still wear a mask.  According to Rand Paul that makes me a Democrat.  So be it. We the people are controlling ourselves in perpetuity, largely because the alternative is being dead; or seriously impaired for the rest of our lives, which is another kind of "perpetuity" altogether, which we will gladly avoid if at all possible.

Ron Johnson is a yutz, and the people of Wisconsin should be embarassed by him.  Then again my state is represented by Ted Cruz (at large) and Louie Gohmert, Chip Roy, Dan Crenshaw....so who am I to talk?  And if it would boost the vaccination rate, I'd even favor government issued vaccine passports.  At this point I'm afraid we're gonna see another nationwide surge in cases among people too stupid to get vaccinated when they should have; and then it'll be too late for most of them.
